These days, it's rare when you call a company and you get a human on the other end of the line, let alone the owner! Galvan Fly Reels is a pleasant exception to this rule. Galvan has been making quality reels since 1994, and since that time, Galvan has developed a cult-like following, and it's no wonder why. When it comes to a high quality reel at a reasonable price, Galvan is the one to choose.

Galvan Fly Reels is located in the heart of great fly fishing country in Sonora, California. The company is still run by its founder, Bonifacio Galvan, and his wife Carmen. It’s a true family business; currently all four Galvan children work with Mom and Dad. Moreover, their customer service is among the best in the business.
All Galvan reels are machined in their Sonora shop from 6061 bar stock aluminum. The reels feature a fully ventilated one-sided frame and a two-sided ported spool, resulting in an extremely durable, yet lightweight reel. Besides the sturdy construction, Galvan reels are very easy to use. The spool release requires a simple push of a button, and a large drag knob makes adjustments on the water a breeze.

Galvan makes five series of reels. The moderately-priced Standard, the original Galvan Reel, is a standard arbor design, and the Open Back is a large arbor design. These two series share a high performance, thermoplastic disc drag design supported by two sets of stainless steel ball bearings. The Torque, the moderately-priced Rush Series and the radical new Spokes are large arbor designs that have stainless steel and thermoplastic disc drag units with self lubricating HPV plastic bushings.

All five series of Galvan Reels are very light for their respective designs, very reliable, and require minimal maintenance for a lifetime of performance. All Galvan Reels are anodized and are highly resistant to saltwater corrosion.  Leland is one of the nation’s largest Galvan Reel dealers and from the perspective of that position, we just haven’t seen any problems with these beautiful reels. In fact, we like the Galvan Reels so much we use them on all of our Leland Fly Fishing School rods. If you’re looking for a lightweight, stylishly modern, high-tech fly reel, Galvan should be number one on your list.
